Little Rock First Baptist Church

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Lets walk through the process of how this install went with Little Rock First Baptist Church…

We first started with the original hard copy blueprints from 1972…

Original Blueprints from 1972

We took those prints to our office and converted them into a digital AutoCAD type format that works with our 3D software…

To Scale Digitized file from Original Blueprints

From this, we built the drawing up into a 3D environment to simulate the actual building…

3D Build from Blueprints

After meeting with the client and deciding what was needed, we put the actual lighting fixtures in the new 3D model to see what it would look like…

Simulated Lighting with 3D Renderings

The system was approved by the client, we placed an order for all of the gear and proceeded with the install…

The install at Little Rock First Baptist is complete and they have had their first concert performance with the new system. The new Martin Lighting rig has performed flawlessly and the M1 console has been a pleasure to install once again!

I just have to say it has been such a pleasure working with the entire team over at LRFBC. The install so far has gone exactly as planned. We have the Front of House position installed and working, along with removing the old Lehigh lighting console and replacing it with the new Martin M1.

The list of gear going in at Little Rock First Baptist Church is as follows:

  • 1 Martin M1 Lighting Console
  • 12 Martin 700 Profiles
  • 4 Martin 700 Washes
  • 4 Martin 301 LED Washes
  • 4 Martin 350 Entour LED Profiles
  • 8 LED Pars
  • 2 LED Strips
  • 1 Wireless DMX system with 2 transmitters and 3 Receivers
  • 100′ of XSF 12″x12″ Trussing
  • 5 1/2 ton motors

This system will give them a whole new capability for events and theatrical productions or presentations. Worship Pastor, Jerry Wilson had the vision and now is able to see it coming together. We are honored to be a part of this upgrade and can’t wait to see the product finished.

Full Focus Joins with Martin

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

Full Focus Inc. is now an authorized Martin Professional dealer.

“Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Aarhus, Denmark, Martin Professional is a world leader in the creation of dynamic lighting solutions for the entertainment, architectural, and commercial sectors.”

Full Focus Inc. is excited about the possibilities this brings to the local venues as well as our clients nationwide.  Martin lighting is well known as an industry standard and provides road ready solutions for tours, rock solid performance for the night after night tasks of a nightclub, the elegance and proven reliability needed for architectural installations, as well as the functionality lighting designers around the globe require.
Full Focus is also pleased to offer the Martin Lighting line of controllers.  Our entire team has had the opportunity to use the Martin Maxxyz on several of the NCL cruise ships as well as specifying the Maxxyz on several of our corporate events and we are in love with it!  They have taken it even further now with the compact and much more affordable M1, which Full Focus has specified for the main lighting console at a local worship facility, and we plan on putting this console in stock as part of our rental inventory.

Martin also has a huge line of very cutting edge LED products.  LEDs are taking our industry by storm and Martin is right there on the edge growing with it!  They have the new MAC 350 Entour that is an LED answer to the moving light consumer.  It’s simply amazing!  No need for buying new lamps, it runs cool, its small form factor makes it easy to use as an architectural fixture but it has enough punch to use in a theatre setting as well.  And the 350 is only one of many LED products Martin has done right.  So stay tuned for more LED solutions.

Martin lighting has a strong environmental and ethical focus which makes them great fit here at Full Focus!  Please take a look at the Martin Lighting product line on our online store and please call us for competitive pricing on all their products.  Once again we are proud to offer you Martin products and stand behind their products 100%.

March Design Notes

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

As we move into this new era of LED products we are getting a ton of questions from clients about the benefits of these fixtures hitting the market and what applications they might have. I will address the power benefits in this issue and go over other benefits in the next newsletter.

The transition to LED fixtures has huge benefits for so many reasons.  The power that LED fixtures consume is just a fraction of what convention lighting requires.  Which in turn means lower power bills, but it also allows you to have several more fixtures operating off the same power source as your old fixture.  OK stay with me, while we do some simple math… Say for instance you are using a 1000w par can.  You can assume that light will be using 10 amps, a normal breaker is rated at 15 amps, doing the math allows for only one 1000w par can to be operated on a 15 amp breaker.  However an LED par would be in the range of 90-120w or 1 amp, allowing you to put 10-15 LED fixtures on that same power source. This is a saving if you are doing an upgrade as you don’t have to have more power run to those old locations.  The same plug-in but now you can plug 10-15 LED lights into that one plug!!!

This is also good for those that travel with their band and lighting gear as there is no longer a need for a larger power source to run a light show.

Next month I will discuss the features of the LED fixtures and how much more they can do than the older conventional lights.

Till next month…  RTD

February Design Notes

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Architectural lighting is becoming a very important element worldwide.  I have seen some amazing lighting on some amazing architecture while traveling.  There are many things a business, home or any facility can do to create a new look to their building both inside and out.  As a designer I am always looking at what is done to buildings and taking notes as to how we can assist those around us to create exciting new looks with architecture but keeping in tune with the design of the building and its surroundings.  I feel it is so important to understand that it doesn’t have to be huge or extravagant to be perfect!  There are places where a ton of expensive lights are what is needed to create the look, however it is often over-done and sometimes the simplest design is what is exactly needed.

I also want to say just a few more words about the use of natural lighting.  I can’t count how many museums I have been to where the only light on the displayed objects is natural light that has been directed or allowed to fall onto the object architecturally.  WOW!  I mean it is amazing to look at a sculpture, painting or some ancient artifact with natural lamination.  Then to think the architect had the vision to create that path for the light when designing the space is even more incredible.  Now that isn’t always available in our modern designs but to take that concept into our modern forms and use the correct lighting is always a possibility.

Please don’t get me wrong, I love the LED movement and think it has a huge place for us designers and even the end users, but we must always keep in check what is actually needed for the effect or task and make sure we stay true to what we know is needed and not have our hands forced by new technology.  Till then keep up the good work!

    Full Focus Inc. Lights Silpada

    Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Silpada 2010 Lighting Show Look 1Lighting designers Rob Holland of AVI Staging Technology Group and Robert Dicken of Full Focus Inc.  were able to successfully co-design the lighting package and control for the Silpada Designs 2010 National Convention in Missouri.  Silpada is one of the nation’s largest sterling silver jewelry home party companies, with over 28,000 independent representatives. This year’s three-day annual conference at the Kansas City Convention Center attracted nearly 5,000 sales representatives and featured presentations, an awards night and an entertainment night.

    Silpada Lighting Setup

29 semi trucks carried the support for the multi-purpose rig that consisted of about 100 Martin lighting fixtures with a few conventional channels for audience washes.  Two Wholehog 3 consoles were used for control.  The majority of the work load was placed on the MAC 2000 Performances.  They were dedicated to the framework around the LED portals.  All in all the Martin rig was at about 99% the entire show, having only to replace one fixture that was not responding as it should on day one.  Props have to go out to Martin for this one.  I dont know of many rigs with this many moving lights that would hold 99% throughout the week!  Also props go out to Christie Lights for taking such good care of their rental gear.

Cory Combow from Full Focus was the ME for the show and did a great job keeping us up and running as well as taking care of all the satellite rooms the show had throughout the week. Silpada 2010 Lighting Consoles

As far as control…  The Hog 3 consoles we used on this one were rock solid as well.  Joshua Gillespie from Full Focus found the new software seems to be hitting on resolving some of the old annoyances that were becoming “the norm” for the Hog 3′s.  We were pleased with the rig as a whole on this one.  Rob Holland did a great job with fixture placement and type making it an easy task for me to design some great looks for the client on this end.  It was a great show!
